Artist's Statement

My Passion - Art    My Vice - Food     My Life - My family and my friends

I started to paint as an adult.  First with watercolor, because it did not seem so intimidating, then with oils and acrylics and later I went on to mixed media.  I love to explore and painting is the way I interpret the world around me.  First I like to do contour drawings in ink (that way I get a pure original line). Next I work with washes of color and last light and shadow.  As these three elements come together I become acquainted with my subject.  The next phase is always a surprise.  Each time I paint I am looking  with a different vision solving a different piece of the puzzle.  This world is fluid, dynamic, resilient, changing, forever in motion and yet it is also non-changing, still, quiet, eternal, and silent.  With all this before me I see no end to my painting.  When I feel daunted by this task I think of Goethe who said "Boldness has genius of it's own, so begin it." and I paint on.
